South Australia’s kids of cool schooled us on streetwear 101 at last night’s Ready to Wear group runway, with Vogue fashion editor Phillipa Moroney styling the show to boast each designers signature aesthetic.
The runway featured So It Goes The Label, Casper+Pearl, STONE, Lexi Clothing, Julie White, Autark, Alpha-Be the Label Tiff Manuell, Simmone Standing The Label, and d’nim: Artistic jeans collection by Chen Wen.
Opening the show was Tiff Manuell’s signature colourful and vibrant hand painted bags which are works of art in themselves. Paired with stockings and socks from Julie White, the simple and plain bodysuits worn by the models let the accessories do all the talking.
The ultimate cool-girl Simmone Standing proved again why we love her with minimalistic, bold and effortlessly chic garments. The Fashion Palette participant and Winner of the 2014 Emerging Designer award’s final outfit of black cigarette pants and a long black backless apron dress with draping on the front was so unique and sexy.
STONE Label’s monochromatic colour palette with a slight injection of light blue helped young designer Laura Hanna to earn her place as an established designer. REPEAT is Laura’s second collection under her label STONE which is all about clean lines with statement pieces that can be worn together or paired back with other garments for a more casual look. The metal hoops on several of STONE’s pieces drew attention to the technology of the garment with the little black dress standing out as the classic item you could wear time and time again.
Adelaide’s love affair with China was continued with Chen Wen’s d’nim: Artistic Jeans which saw patchwork, embroidered, wide legged and frayed jeans along with several denim dresses. Whoever said double denim was out is so not fashion.
Autark’s collection reminded me if the 1700’s British Royal Navy with their maroon velvet pants and white blouses with ruffled sleeves and collars. The collection was elegant yet sexy and the gold detailing made the silhouettes feminine and dainty.
So It Goes The Label showcased their signature sporty aesthetic with oversized garments in the form of flared sleeves and pants.
Newcomer Alpha-be The Label made us want to attend a garden party and drink champagne all day while wearing one of their white lace or floral garments. Florals for spring can actually be groundbreaking when done right guys.
Cute, romantic and fabulously flirty label Casper+Pearl showed a mature collection with fun, cocktail dresses and playsuits. Off the shoulder tops, ruffles and halter necks were featured throughout the collection which is renowned for its hand painted prints from head designer and owner of Azalea Models Stacey Hendrickson.
LEXI Clothing closed the show with their bold, daring and electric cocktail and formal wear. With a dark and metallic palette the plunging necklines and barely there garments made little sister to couture label Alexis George a clear favourite in the room.
