Attending the Australian Fashion Film Awards

On Monday, ACMI hosted the Australian Fashion Film Awards (AFFA) Screening as part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. The night saw fashion influencers, media, designers and film directors come together for an evening in celebration of fashion fused with film.

Founding director of Australian Fashion Film Awards, Anastasia Fai says: “We are very excited to have partnered with ACMI for AFFA’s first consumer event. ACMI’s mission to celebrate, explore and promote the moving image, very much aligns with our commitment to the genre of fashion film.”

A total of 25 short fashion films were showcased at the screening, each of which will be judged by AFFA’s industry jury panel who will vote for the best works out of the selection.

Danny Sangra‘s ‘BRIONI presents METALLICA’ had us in absolute tears, presenting a hilarious comedy skit with famous metal band Metallica during their campaign shoot for menswear fashion label BrioniWhen fashion meets metal.

We saw model Abbey Lee doing her thing in ‘Amante Amore’ by Radge Ratsaphong for Sass & Bide, accompanied by a fashion-meets-music approach. Ratsaphong used sound effects related to fashion items, including heels on floorboards and jingly jewellery, to create a rhythmic beat to the aesthetic visuals. It was certainly a powerfully sensory film with the sights and sounds combined.

An eerily beautiful piece by acclaimed director Marie Schuller created beside stylist Görkem Hayta ended the night on a high, leaving us wanting more. The hypnotic 10-minute film ‘Three Women Arrive’ showcased pieces by Dion Lee and Tony Maticevski, and featured our very own ethereal Lily Nova of Finesse Models. This was undeniably our favourite film at the AFFA screening.
