‘That was a bloody rollercoaster from start to finish’ is what I heard the lady in front of me say to her friend at the end of Adelaide Fringe show Aunty Donna, and really, it’s the best way I can think to describe it. A high energy, hyperactive and hilarious rollercoaster.
Victorian boys Broden Kelly, Zachary Ruane and Mark Samual Bonanno band together to become Aunty Donna and deliver a show you wouldn’t believe is an hour long – it feels like I sat down and laughed until I cried for five minutes and then got back up again. Their fast paced, True Blue Aussie comedy style had the entire audience of their sold out show laughing, cheering and dancing.
Whoopee cushions, spirits, Italians and even God pop up throughout the show (no, really) all whilst Aunty Donna dance and clamber through the audience. Talk about having to have a high fitness level – I was exhausted just watching them.
Should you see it? Absolutely. I would go and see the next show in a heartbeat. Funny, entertaining and smart, Aunty Donna is the definition of amazing Australian comedy and I give them all the stars in the world.
