Dressing for Wineries in Winter: A Winter Reds Edit

Winter is coming, Adelaide. If you’ve been spending your spring and summer exploring our state’s incredible wine regions, you may be feeling a little bit devastated that the cold weather has kicked in. However, most wineries have crackling fire pits, full-bodied red wines, and seasonal dishes to warm you up, so there is absolutely nothing to stop you heading out to the vineyards during winter. In fact, this July you can head to the Winter Reds Weekend in the Adelaide Hills to celebrate the wonderful red wines of the region. One of the hardest parts about signing on for a winter wine tour is what to wear – but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

The summer go-to outfit for a winery is a flowing, floral-print midi dress, sturdy block heels, and a great hat. Sadly, this doesn’t really work for when the cooler weather hits. Yet there are so many ways to re-work your summer pieces for winter. Winter wineries don’t have to mean the standard uniform of jeans, a coat, and boots. Try playing with layers this winter, by donning your silk slip or boho midi dress from summer over a tight turtleneck. This look is so easy to execute, it can be whipped up from the pieces that you already own. We have arranged a gallery (scroll up to see) of simple and stylish looks that can work for winter wine tours. Have a flick through the images for some inspiration, and then scroll down to find out where you can buy similar pieces here in Adelaide. Don’t forget to add your favourite hat!

Cameo Collective ‘Never Enough Knit Jumper’ as seen on Adelaide girl @ofstyleandsubstance_blog. Work this fun jumper with an eye-catching midi skirt (see below) and heeled boots. If it’s an extra cold day, add stockings underneath for warmth, and a grey or black coat over the shoulders.

The ‘Peaches’ slip dress from Spell & The Gyspy Collective can be found at Sooki boutique (@sookiboutique), and is perfect for a more relaxed, boho-style look. You can winter-fy this dress easily by adding a tight black turtleneck underneath and garnishing with a bold lip. Turn it up further with statement earrings and sleek hair.

Or, the Keepsake “Do It Right” Dress is available at BNKR Store Adelaide. This dress would work perfectly with a coloured turtleneck underneath, but if you’re not feeling that bold, a striped top would also work. Add some reflective sunglasses and you’re ready!

That pleated metallic maxi you adored over summer? Work it for winter by layering a soft jumper with a tough leather biker jacket, and adding a solid heel. This pleated Hello Parry Grace Midi Pleated Skirt is available at online at Miko + Mollie.

Finally, try wearing pants underneath your summer dress. We know that the thought of dresses-over-jeans can resurface some cringe-worthy memories of Hi-5 fashion, but when worn right it can look ultra-sophisticated. Try a cropped pair with detail, like the Empire Jeans from The Fifth. You can find them in Adelaide at BNKR Store or The Birdcage.

This looks also works well with a slim tapered pant or kick flares, and almost any type of dress can work. This dress from Keepsake the Label (showcased at The Birdcage boutique in Norwood) is perfect for layering over pants.

Silk slip. Image: Bardot

Alternatively, any silk or statin slip works well over pants and over turtlenecks. This one pictured is from Bardot, but you can find them across many stores in Adelaide.

We hope we have helped to provide some inspiration for your winter winery looks. Have fun this winter by styling layers upon layers to keep your look interesting.
