Emerging Collective Runway at MSFW

Sunday night saw The Emerging Collective Runway boast an array of bodacious and notably artistic designs at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Acting as a launchpad for emerging designers, the runway paraded an extensive list of aspiring students hailing from Holmesglen Institute, Fashionmasters, Box Hill Institute, Kangan Institute and Whitehouse Institute of Design. Combined with a dark electronic soundtrack blaring through the surround sound system and bold-lipped models styled with a distinct edge, the Emerging Collective designs on show had us truly captivated every second.

Jessica Lawrence of Kangan Institute presented some undeniably daring designs with her pieces incorporating animal prints and textures such leopard, fur and feathers, also accompanied by broad animal illustrations featuring on the back. Her final piece was a huge, draping coat which almost looked like it belonged in a millionaire pimp’s wardrobe or on the back of some famous rap god like Kanye West. With alternating brown fur and leopard print from shoulder-to-toe and a huge lion face plastered on the back, this piece was certainly a memorable one.

Also from Kangan, Yisha Wang‘s collection was bubbly and fun, featuring digitally printed pieces styled with some added funky accessories (including the strawberry backpack we were dying to own!). Bubble skirts, crops tops, high necklines and loads of bright colours comprised the fun-loving designs.
