On Wednesday 25 November, newly established family-owned business, Houda’s Kitchen hosted a launch party at their humble abode on Port Road.
Upon entering the eatery, the loveable family make you feel instantly welcomed into their Lebanese home (disguised as a restaurant). The dining areas, both inside and out, are spacious and perfect for big groups. The large tables promote a warm, communal feeling and make it easy to share food, drinks and chat throughout the evening. The outdoor area has a similar seating arrangement to inside and is perfect for hot summer nights (especially since there’s a fully-fledged bar outside!)
The menu is extensive and authentic. Part owner, Doumit Awkar says that their “traditional Lebanese recipes [have been] passed down through many generations.” There are a variety of small plates available if you’re curious to try a number of different dishes, and these include Batanjan (fried eggplant with garlic and pomegranate syrup), Jawaneh (chicken wings), Falafel, Halloumi and pastries with a variety of fillings. There are plenty of fresh salads to choose from as well, including divine tabouleh.
Don’t fear, there are meatier options too! Lamb, chicken, prawns and beef steaks are all available from Dom’s Charcoal, and very reasonably priced! Houda’s Kitchen also offers two meals under “Houda’s Mezze” which both comprise of a tasting of different traditional Lebanese foods which is the perfect option if you’re hungry and bought company. The menu of wood oven pizzas available is enormous, affordable and even more exciting as they’re cooked right in front of your eyes in the pizza ovens on display. Houda’s Kitchen has got families covered too with a $10 kids menu.
Yes, Houda’s Kitchen is another one of those “must-try” places. Not only is the food amazing, but it is perfectly complimented by kind and attentive wait staff. The ‘family feel’ present from the moment you arrive will you have returning for falafels forever.
