Kangan Institute Annual Fashion Show: Melbourne Edge

An array of inspiring designs showcased at the Kangan Institute Melbourne Edge fashion parade last month, combining daring fashion with an evening of fabulous food and entertainment all organised by Kangan’s students.

Held at Kangan Institute’s Centre for Fashion and Creative Industries in Richmond, the evening began with drinks and nibbles in an artistic outdoors setting. Guests lined up to be seated inside the runway tent, excited to see the latest and greatest in emerging designer fashion.

We fell in love with the powerful avant garde pieces from talented winner of the 2016 Fashion Awards Australia’s New and Emerging Designer Award, Jessica Lawrence. Boasting dark designs and a range of textures featuring faux fur, gold rope, spikes and chains, Jessica’s intricate garments had us in absolute awe.

Remembering Yisha Wang‘s playful designs from Melbourne Spring Fashion Week this year, we loved seeing the digital print on silk and sweet, little fruit bags strutting down the runway yet again!

We also admired Kangan’s Australian Red Cross showcase, parading up-cycled pieces distinctly reminiscent of hippie vibes and 70’s chic. Flared jeans and sleeves were big, as were loud colours mixed with quirky patterns and textures, all of which made for quite the unique collection.
