Longview Vineyards presents ‘The Piece Project’

From the 22nd to the 24th of January, the annual Adelaide Hills Crush Festival will be hosting a series of cellar door and exclusive events in celebration of Adelaide Hills’ food, wine, art and more. With 41 wineries involved and over 50 events, Crush Festival 2016 is set to be a big one.

Sunday the 24th will will see The Piece Project take place, an exciting street art competition and the first of its kind to be held in a vineyard. Notable Australian street artists Mayonaize, Dvate, Putos and Kiddoe will gather to Longview Vineyard to compete.

As big fans of art and wine, we feel the combination of the two will be an explosive pairing, bringing together hundreds of people to admire a live street-art exhibition with the picturesque backdrop of the lush green vineyards.

The event is free to the public and the winning piece is set to grace the label of Longview’s premium, reserve Shiraz, The Piece.

For the set up of The Piece Project art installation, Longview Vineyard Marketing Director, Mark Saturno says, “Huge easels made of MDF board are set up and the artists are given a loose brief and then create a mural, live in around five hours.”

“So in effect, the artists become the entertainment and the absolute focus of the event.”

It is evident that the impact of street art is becoming prevalent in today’s society as we slowly start to recognise its value, steering away from what was originally a negative perception on street artists as vandals. Today’s style of graffiti offers a way to renew and beautify the urban environment or can stand as a socio-political statement, communicating an important message to its viewers.

Adelaide could be considered one of the world’s most unique street art communities, with walls all over the CBD and suburbs painted in stunning, ever-changing contemporary art. Adelaide Street Art on Facebook is one worth checking out, posting photos weekly of murals and artworks popping up around Adelaide areas.
