It is an opportunity for fashion designers to put their heart and soul into transforming a pointe shoe into a creative masterpiece and at the same time giving back to the beautiful, classic art form. Since its inception in 2013, Create. has raised tens of thousands of dollars for The Australian Ballet.

The designers featured in Megan’s signature illustration style includes Viktoria Novak, Akira Isogawa, TY-LR, Steven Kahlil, Rachel Gilbert, Cinquante, Sass & Bide, Paolo Sebastian, ParlourX YSL, Fleur Wood and Ginger & Smart. Ballerina  Brooke Lockett, who was also the event’s guest speaker designed a shoe titled ‘A Thousand Miles’.

“I’ve walked a thousand miles in my custom made pointe shoes and over that time they’ve pushed me to my limits, taken me all over the world, I’ve felt heartache, pain, balance, comfort, discipline, perseverance and passion in them. But mostly, I’ve been taken to the most euphoric place dancing in them,” says Brooke.

Brooke’s shoe tells the story of her childhood dream to be a ballerina and the hard work, sacrifices and dedication which has helped her to achieve her dream.

Adelaide Fashion Festival‘s finale show Paolo Sebastian contributed a shoe to the collection, titled ‘Mystery & Darkness’. The shoe took me back to the character of the black swan in Swan Lake with the feminine lace and feathers decorating it contrasting with the heavy and bold finish.
