A homey feast at Melanie Italian Restaurant

The cosy wooden interior and homey Napolitano menu make Melanie a secret haven amongst the hustle and bustle of central London. Situated right by Leicester Square, Covent Garden and Tottenham Court Road stations, Melanie could not be any more central. But rather than charging extortionate prices and offering a small menu of average Italian food, which they could easily get away with, Melanie stays true to the traditional Italian mentality; come hungry, leave happy.

The extensive menu covers all manner of popular Italian cuisine. Pizza, pasta, seafood, meat, poultry and more are all available, and if you’re going to overorder anywhere, Melanie is a great place to do it.

For antipasti, we went for a selection of Mozzarella in Carrozza, Antipasto Melanie and Gamberoni del Mediterraneo. The mozzarella was breaded, deep-fried, gooey on the inside and topped with a rich, homemade tomato sauce, which was always going to be a winner in our books. The antipasto platter came over with a great assortment of cured meats and Italian cheeses that went perfectly with our wine, while the prawns were sautéed in a delicious white wine, garlic, butter and lemon sauce.

It’s been a while since we’ve been to a proper Italian restaurant, so Kristen decided to go for the Scaloppine alla Melanie as a main. The pan-fried veal was tender and flavoursome, and topped with fresh tomato and mozzarella cheese in a white wine sauce. Mel went for the Linguine con Capesante, a seafood-style pasta (one of Mel’s favourite kinds of pasta, of course), made with scallops and tomatoes in a rich brandy sauce.

You’d be mistaken if you think you can visit a traditional Italian restaurant and walk out without having dessert. We’re always happy to oblige with this though, and went for the sticky toffee pudding (classic us) which came out warm and swimming in toffee caramel goodness.

Whether you’re looking to take the family out, need a quick dinner before a West End show or are heading out for after-work dinner, Melanie is the perfect spot for any occasion. You can make a booking through their website here.
