Mercato’s upcoming wine event celebrates all things Nebbiolo

There are wine people and there are WINE people. The former thinks anything outside of the Barossa is garbage and worships Shiraz like it is heaven-sent (not that there is anything wrong with Shiraz). The latter, well, they like a challenge.

Enter Nebbiolo, a grape that is a monstrosity of subtle complexities, hard to understand but easy to fall in love with. Known for tannin, acid and a tell-tale scent of tar and roses – this aint your average wine, perfect for those after a challenge.

On Sunday November 12, Mercato presents a unique opportunity to taste these incredible wines at ‘Cin Cin Nebbiolo’. Cin Cin translates to ‘cheers to’ and with over 100 wines to taste you can be sure there’s going to be plenty of cheers going around.

Nebbiolo’s ancestral home is Piemonte in Northern Italy. This is a land of rolling vine-covered hills, with ancient castles visible through the ever-present fog. Nothing can prepare you for how unbelievably beautiful the area is, and Cin Cin Nebbiolo is hosted at Mt Lofty House in homage to this homeland.

Wines from the Italian region will be available for tasting, as well as Aussie grown Nebbiolos from over 20 winemakers.

Masterclasses can be attended throughout the day to brush up your knowledge and cement your standing as a WINE person. Nerding out is encouraged.

Tickets are $95, which includes a glass, antipasto platters and all tastings. Bookings can be made by following this link.
