Nazeem Hussain is not afraid to tell you exactly how he feels about racist dogs, telemarketers and marriage. Hussain is a Muslim of Sri Lankan descent who describes himself as the perfect Australian, just with the wrong face. His show explains stories of his travels to Sri Lanka, encounters with bed-stealing possums and the difficulties he encounters buying a house in Victoria’s ‘not so Noble’, Noble Park.
The intelligent, laugh-out-loud comedian touches on many relevant topics within the news, although his core performance is constructed around tackling issues of race headfirst. His raw humor is confronting and pertinent addressing Australia’s white-dominated culture, yet he manages to not to cross the thin line with his hilarious spin. However, if you are easily offended this is probably not the show for you.
Throughout the hour performance Hussain deconstructs many cultural habits, stereotypes and minorities, which will have you squirming on your uncomfortable bench seat. His performance is endlessly entertaining, as you can never predict what comes next.
It’s hard not too see how Hussain bagged a logie nomination in 2015, for his TV show ‘Legally Brown’ for most outstanding comedy. ‘Nazeem Hussain – Hussain in the Membrane’ will be showing at The Garden of Unearthly Delights in Studio 7 until March 6.
