A new wave of audio theatre free from the limitations of time, location and cost is scheduled to drop on November 30th, showcasing some of Adelaide’s best emerging actors, writers and directors.
The project will be an online release of full-cast radio dramatisations in three themed episodes: Between, Algorithm and Follow. In each episode there are three short dramas written, performed and produced by local emerging talent, providing audiences with a theatre experience from the comfort of their own home through a single set of headphones.
Director, Connor Reidy, is excited for the team, who have been working together for six months, to create entertaining theatre listeners will love.
“I hope New Wave is able to connect with listeners to deliver unique experiences. It’s unlike film, theatre or TV and I hope audiences are willing to give it a try,” says Connor.
“There’s some episodes with hilarious scripts and others with brilliant performances. I think ‘Between’ is one of the strongest performances from all involved and explores current themes that affect us all.”
In its first episode, Between, the cast explores themes such as tough decisions, the worries of university graduates, and reluctant family bonding in times of need. All dramas are inspired by Adelaide’s diverse community, and the project aims to promote emerging creatives in Australian theatre.
“We’d love to achieve a second season and supply a platform for a new bunch of creatives to experiment with podcasts and the medium of audio theatre,” says Connor.
Episodes two and three will be released in the following weeks after November 30, and can be streamed or downloaded for free via iTunes, Soundcloud and New Wave: Audio Theatre’s website. There is a sample of the dramas currently on their Facebook page available for listening.
