Our looks by Katherine // Adelaide Fashion Festival

For this year’s Adelaide Fashion Festival, we were all about supporting local and promoting the best of what Adelaide has to offer the fashion industry both nationally and internationally.

But not only were we focused on styling our looks wearing local brands such as Katya KomarovaHarvey The LabelAustralian Fashion Labels and more, we also had our make-up covered for the entire four-day festival by young local talent, Katherine Andonas.

Katherine is an up and coming make-up artist looking to expand her beauty experience and knowledge, and growing her client base by the week. Using a versatile style, Katherine can do makeovers for just about any event, including the likes of weddings, 21sts, costume dress and other such celebrations.

Although she does not have a favourite brand of makeup, she puts extensive research into choosing what works best for her and her clientele from a range of different sources online.

Katherine mainly uses quality yet affordable brands such as Mac, Makeup Forever, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Makeup Geek, Becca Cosmetics, Nars and Urban Decay. She likes to experiment with drug store products such as Australis on occasion, too. Katherine sets out to prove that it is possible to find the perfect balance between quality and expense, it all comes down to what you use and how!

When we asked Katherine what her biggest beauty tip would be, she responded with; “Always prime your eye and set your eye lid with powder or eyeshadow to prevent gel eyeliner from moving. I cringe when see oily eye lids and messy eyeliner that has transferred all over the lid because the eye was not set properly. I live by Napoleon Perdis’ mantra: ‘Not to prime is a crime!'”

Katherine’s signature look is a bold bright matte orange lipstick as she likes to have some fun with her own looks and finds orange more of a unique lip colour to wearing a simple, boring red. “My favourite is Hourglass’ opaque rouge liquid lipstick in Riviera,” Katherine explains, “I love pairing this with winged eyeliner or smokey copper eyes and a strong golden highlight on the cheek.

“It’s such a unique look if you want to stand out and compliments girls with really warm or olive skin tones.”

For the first day of Adelaide Fashion Festival, Katherine gave Kristen a bold and daring makeover, using deep purples and pinks to match with the dyed purple ends of Kristen’s hair.

Her second look for Kristen was a little less bold and more suited to daywear in light of the lunchtime event Variety on King William, featuring a nude lip and sparkling light pink on the insides corners of the eyes for a bit of shine. This time, Katherine focused on the eyes instead of a bold lip colour.

Mel’s first look was a classic smoky eye, using blacks and silvers paired with a pale pink lip colour to suit a mainly monochromatic outfit for the Variety on King William show.

Katherine experimented a little for Mel’s look at the Paolo Sebastian runway show, daring to use shades of green to bring out the colour of Mel’s pale green/blue eyes and, again, paired with a nude lip to enhance the eyes further.
