Say Hello, Sarnie!

After launching last week at 147 Pirie Street, brand new brunch bar Hello Sarnie has already attracted quite the crowd with its fresh bites and healthy snacks.

Offering a range of traditional and gourmet sandwiches, wraps, baguettes and salads, as well as dip pots, museli, yoghurt pots and fresh fruit cups, Hello Sarnie has something substantial for everyone.

Owners Andrew Pearce and Mike Kendall-Smith, originally from the UK, say the idea for Hello Sarnie was created with the aim of serving fresh, high-quality breakfast, lunch and snack products made onsite daily, similar to that of the grab-and-go style brunch bars in UK.

As we stepped into the space, a sleek, wooden interior welcomed us in and we were immediately taken back to our time in London this year, running around and immersing ourselves in the British culture. We were reminded of a certain chain grab-and-go deli called Pret a Manger which served organic coffee and all-natural food, and was our ultimate go-to hangover destination.

Speaking with owner Andrew, we soon found out that Pret was, in fact, one of the places in UK that the two had modelled their ideas on. And what a great job they had done!

And why the name ‘Hello Sarnie’ you may ask? Well, the term ‘sarnie’ is actually English slang for ‘sandwich’, so the name truly ties in with the entire concept altogether!

Andrew believes Adelaide has an untapped market for “proper” sandwiches, as he explains, “Having come from working in London to working in Adelaide, I pretty quickly noticed that there was nowhere I could go to just grab a fresh and quick sandwich or baguette off the shelf, to either eat back at my desk or out enjoying the Aussie weather.”

Hello Sarnie also offers fantastic coffee, as any brunch bar traditionally should. “Our coffee has been sourced from the finest local roaster who has created a blend unique to Hello Sarnie, because only the best tasting coffee will do for a city that loves to drink it,” says Andrew.

Not only are the Sarnie products fresh and ready-to-go, they also comes beautifully packaged and affordably priced at the convenience of the customer. “We think that you should be able to get a great lunch and beverage for around $10, and so we’ve worked hard to make our products everyday affordable, not a weekly treat.”

Hello Sarnie operates with its own in-house kitchen, having all ingredients delivered fresh daily similar to the way a restaurant works. Owner Mike explains, “Our food has no sell-by dates, additives or preservatives – what we don’t sell that day, we will give away to charity that night.”
