We signed off our article on the launch of Backyard Cinema‘s new Wandsworth location by saying we couldn’t wait to go back. Luckily for us, that time has come, and we were treated to a fabulous evening cosying up on their plush beanbag chairs.
Doors to the lush Winter Night Garden space open 1.5 hours before the film starts, so we made sure to get there just after 7pm. There are food trucks and bars dotted around the inside and outside seating areas, and we had to indulge in another one of Honest Burger’s special Backyard Burgers again. With beef, American cheese, backyard ‘tangy’ mayo, bacon and tobacco crispy onions, how can you say no? There’s also a really cute craft beer bar out the back in The Alcove, a super cosy indoor area with comfy couches and a mezzanine for extra seating.
Going through the wardrobe, the forest and into the Winter Night Garden is a fun experience. They close off that section 15 minutes before the movie is due to start to ensure everyone is seated in time, so we’d recommend heading in and finding your seats well before then. There’s another bar inside with loads of tasty snacks like Tyrell’s popcorn and Candy Kittens, so you can get reinforcements whenever you wish.
We were there to see the new live-action Aladdin, which was super funny. Backyard Cinema screen a wide variety of genres though, with well-loved classic and new releases all making appearances. Some of the upcoming films include Harry Potter, Grease and Pretty Woman, while a special Halloween lineup has fright flicks like Beetlejuice, Scream and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The Winter Night Garden will soon be getting a snowy makeover just in time for Christmas. You can bet there’ll be loads of feel-good Chrissy flicks scheduled as well, with everything from Love Actually to Home Alone to Elf screening.
