Esmi – foundation that’s good for your skin!

I’ve been told that wearing makeup every day is bad for my skin, but I’m a self-confessed make-up addict that couldn’t break my habit if I tried. Along came Esmi, who contacted us about their brand-spanking-new mineral and vegan foundation.

The foundation contains Hyaluronic acid for moisturisation, Niacinimide for skin repair, Allantoin for cell protection, shea butter and aloe vera. It’s made in Australia, is SPF15 and currently comes in four shades.

While I loved the sound of this and use some of these ingredients in my skincare routine, at the end of the day I’m still looking for a high-coverage, long lasting foundation to cake my face. I put Esmi to the test to see how it lasted against the stresses of every-day life!

I found that Type I-II suited my skin tone best, so I applied this with the Esmi foundation brush (you can buy the two together in a bundle for $100). The first thing I noticed is how incredibly soft the brush is. It distributed the foundation really evenly and quickly across my face, all while feeling as gentle as a cloud. New favourite foundation brush? I think so!

Hello it's me with just foundation on

Hello it’s me with just foundation on

I was advised that a little goes a long way, so I initially started with a pea-sized amount. I would advise this if you wanted a light coverage, but I’m definitely a full-coverage gal. I found the foundation to be quite buildable however, and after a few more applications I finally came to a coverage I was happy with.

The foundation felt visually weightless on my skin, which I totally loved. Looking in the mirror after about five minutes I noticed my skin still looked a little oily, so I applied some powder over the top to properly set the foundation.

I was a little worried it would fade and rub off during the day, because it felt so light on my skin, however it lasted until well into the evening with minimal patchiness. The only thing that slightly miffed me was I found Type I-II was slightly too light for my skin, and the next shade up was far too dark. Hopefully they add a few more shades in future!

Overall I’m really happy with this foundation and would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a skin-friendly, vegan foundation!
