Short Black, Long Bill

Panama Geisha coffee at Do Duck Inn Adelaide

Have you ever wondered what $240 coffee tastes like? Wonder no more, because thanks to the crew at Do Duck Inn we can give you the down low on this fancy-as brew.

You may remember Kopi Luwak, a type of coffee beans that have been ingested and then shat out by cats and rank as one of the most expensive coffees in the world. This is not the coffee we tried. The style we sampled, Panama Geisha, is much nicer and more exotic. Grown at 1500 feet above sea level in volcanic ash, this hard-to-reach location is what gives the beans their hefty price tag and rich, velvety flavour.

We sample the coffee brewed in a number of ways; short black, long black, piccolo and filtered. This allowed us to taste the different layers in the beans in a concentrated manner, and then a softer way with the addition of milk. The coffee was extremely fruity and sweet, comparable to red wine with rich berry notes, earthy undertones and a strong floral aroma.

Is Panama Geisha worth it’s price tag? To someone like Do Duck Inn owner Michael, definitely. To a sleep-deprived Uni student looking for a quick caffeine fix on the way to class? Who are we kidding, Uni students don’t have money to buy coffee anyway.
