The Amazon Basin

A new Asian tapas restaurant has opened up near Glenelg, with an exciting feature; Adelaide’s biggest indoor Amazon aquarium. Measuring seven to eight metres in length, holding 15,000 litres of water and home to a number of fish typically found in the Amazon river, this aquarium is sure to make The Amazon Basin a unique addition to the Adelaide restaurant scene.

Home made profiteroles and local SA smallgoods

Owners Huy and Jody have been in the aquarium business for twelve years, and the hospitality business for seven years. Wanting to combine their passions and expertise, they created a restaurant where you can come and enjoy delicious Asian tapas, a glass of wine from local South Australian wineries or some of the Belgium desserts on the menu, while relaxing in the ambience of the fish tank.

The menu focuses on serving traditional VietnameseĀ tapas, with the dishes authentically created by Huy’s mother. Think pork balls, quail and yum cha.

Cheese platters provided by Woodside Cheese

The wine list has been carefully curated, with Huy and Jody visiting sixty boutique wineries and narrowing that down to a select fifteen that they thought diners would enjoy most. We would greatly recommend trying the Kies Deer StalkerĀ Merlot, a deliciously fruity red that would pair perfectly with one of their local SA cheese boards.

The dessert menu has a few unique twists to it, like the ever-changing ice-cream menu thatĀ features exotic fruit flavours that will change every few weeks. They will also be making fresh Belgium waffles from scratch using their own secret batter recipe, as well as churros, chocolate panna cotta and a range of cakes.

Lychee Sour cocktails

To finish the menu off, there is a page of tempting cocktails created to suit the exotic atmosphere. The list is made up of original cocktails like the Lychee Sour, which tastes like a tropical holiday in your mouth.
