The Highway launched their new Winter menu last week which featured a whole-lotta mushrooms – making hump day more bearable – and nutritious.
Located on 290 Anzac Highway in Plympton, you too can grab a warm, hearty meal from this fancy pub this season and not feel at all guilty about it! After being left energised and feeling healthy after consuming the many different kinds of mushroom varieties, we can proudly say we 100% recommend the whole-heartedly-made meals.
Entrées consisted of the Field Mushroom Soup containing crème fraiche and crispy shallots as well as the King Brown Salad which provided a fresh aftertaste on the pallet thanks to the parsnip skordalia, hazelnuts and watercress.
An official favourite from us and many others who attended the launch last week was the Wild Porcini Gnocchi. Lovers of Italian food know what good gnocchi tastes like when we see it, and this was like biting into a soft cloud of gnocchi heaven. The dish arrived smothered in white wine and gorgonzola cream sauce and you can also add prawns for only an extra $4.00. The tender Shimejji and Confit Duck Leg came shortly after along with pink oyster mushrooms and pea veloute – another heavenly combination.
If you think pork, chicken or beef sliders are still the rage, think again. The melt-in-your-mouth Portobello Burger consists of a brioche bun, onion rings, cheddar, truffle aioli, mustard and chips to serve.
If you thought you couldn’t get enough mushroom in one night, then you wouldn’t have expected this one. The Bottom Mushroom and Chocolate Expresso Cake provides you with meringue and truffle ice cream along with some other small delicacies you’ll have to experience for yourself. The entire arrangement creates the perfect balance between savoury and sweet – the result is divine.
So, mushroom lovers, get yourself to The Highway and enjoy a cosy, soothing night in the lounge where live acoustic performances take place, the beer garden – don’t worry you won’t get cold on these Winter nights as there is a myriad of heating appliances surrounding you – or the dining areas.
This menu is not to be missed, so make sure you try it out on one of these cold nights. Pricing is very reasonable and you’re definitely getting the quality you’re paying for.
