Winter is deemed ‘the bad season’ by so many. The ‘I miss summer’ Instagram posts begin to pop up and people write Facebook statuses about their hatred towards the rain.

Who can blame the haters; the rain ruins your hair, the cold makes it near impossible to dress for a night out and not to mention the lack of time at the beach.

But, there is one thing that makes this season better than the others…winter food and winter cocktails!

If you are looking for a warm place to go to escape the winter chill, than look no further than The Holdy.

After redeveloping earlier this year, The Holdy have introduced a grungy sailor theme, a new menu that is an interpretation of global street food that meets Australian pub meals and have presented some delicious new drinks to keep you satisfied.

The Holdy’s new cozy haven known as their Winter Bunker just hosted a menu and cocktail launch, which we were lucky enough to attend.

Armed with the freshest food and tastiest cocktails, the Holdy unleashed a whole lot of delicious goodness for us to indulge in. While we kicked back in comfortable couches, nestled amongst the snow themed backdrop of a ski lift and fake snow, it felt like we had just arrived to the snowy Mount Hotham.

With incredibly friendly staff, live music and a beautiful setting; it was clear from the beginning that The Holdy is the place to be this winter.

The meals, influenced by international street food, did not disappoint. With a deliciously fresh duck bao for entrée, mouth-watering balinese chicken with saffron rice for main and moreish churros with chocolate dipping sauce for dessert, “wow” was the overall consensus of the night.

Each meal was devoured while the guest’s heads were nodding in appreciation and the quiet murmur of mmmmm could be heard (I think this means the food was a success)!

Now don’t even get me started on the cocktails! They certainly packed a punch, but in a good way. To begin, we were served a citrus flavoured drink called Empire of Dreams, and dreamy it was. To accompany the main, we were given Cloud B, which was served on ice and with a slice of juicy apple. As the night progressed and the weather outside got colder, we were blessed with a warm cocktail. The Hot Buttered Fuego was a mixture of rum and melted butter and undoubtedly was a fantastic end to a fantastic evening.

All aspects considered, The Holdy is exceptional. If you are looking for a place to eat, drink or escape the cold; The Holdy is where to go this winter.
