The Pearl VIP Launch

They say ‘west side is the best side’ and since the closure of former nightspot Savvy Nightclub off Colonel Light Square to the west of Adelaide’s CBD, new owners and Wall to Wall Interiors have renovated the former dilapidated establishment into a glamorous new cocktail bar and nightclub.

The Pearl, inspired by New York and Western Europe, launched just last Friday, opening even more doors for the west end.

“The Pearl is a cocktail bar at the front and a club at the back, like you’d find in the large scale clubs in America”, co owner Tim Della explained.

On the night of the launch, we were bombarded by glittering Brazilian dancers in feathers and crystals, floundering about the space and weaving between guests.

We discovered the VIP section of the club boasts its own private waitress and bottle service, almost unheard of here in Australia, where patrons can pop bottles of Dom Perignon and Louis Roederer Cristal, as well as local wine labels D’Arenberg and Bird in Hand. Did someone say ‘champagne showers’?

If you pay The Pearl a visit, be sure to try their signature cocktail ‘Green Pearl’. We hear it’s the perfect summer drink!

The Pearl will serve delectable nibbles and tasting plates in its cocktail bar including salmon bruschetta, caviar and cheese aged in champagne (interesting!), with all products sourced locally and supporting South Australian businesses.

The interior of the building has been re-jigged with the help of Seaton-based designer Lydia Fulgido of Wall to Wall Interiors, encapsulating inspiration from America and Europe.

“Our interior designer Lydia has done a fantastic job of combining these influences,” the other co-owner Tom Nika said.

We spoke to Lydia on the night, as she expressed a deep and profound love for New York culture which inspired her final design; “I love New York and everything about it. I’ve really aimed to evoke that real classy cocktail lounge/nightclub vibe that you see happening throughout NYC.”

Updates to the space include leather couches and intimate booths, high open spaces, marble bar tops, pressed metal roofing, unique dimmed lighting and a fireplace in the cocktail bar.

The nightclub out the back hosts a new bar, plenty of space to ‘cut some shapes’ and a cordoned off VIP area.

Patrons can expect a fresh delivery of entertainment every weekend with sets from at least 3 DJs every night.

The Pearl is located at 149 Waymouth Street, just off Colonel Light Square, and is open as a lounge bar from 4pm turning into a nightclub in the later hours from Friday through ’til Sunday.

Bookings are essential to secure a spot in the booths and comfy couches of the cocktail bar.
