A grandiose mix of global culinary icons together with top international food and wine influencers will brace Australia’s Melbourne city for next year’s prestigious World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards.
William Reed Media, the organizer of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants along with Tourism Australia, Visit Victoria and Wine Australia aim to showcase the nation’s gastronomic treasures in an exciting program of events held in stunning locations around Melbourne and regional Victoria. Melbourne will be only the second international city outside of its London home host the soiree, promising a bright future for Melbourne’s reputation as a leading culinary destination among worldwide food scene leaders and restaurateurs.
William Drew, Group Editor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants hopes to make the annual awards a global feature after fourteen successful events in London and the most recent in New York.
“There’s so much international interest in Australia as a food destination, it’s exciting for us to have the opportunity to take the events program to this unique country.” Mr Drew said.
It’s no doubt that Melbourne is notably recognised amongst Australian’s as a bustling hub of food, art, fashion and social hotspots, making it a deserving location for such a renowned event. Melbourne’s own Attica is Australia’s only top 50 restaurant on the competitive list.
The announcement was made at an exclusive dinner on the eve of the awards ceremony in New York by William Drew and Tourism Australia’s Lisa Ronson. Four distinguished Australian chefs such as Ben Shewry, Dan Hunter, Neil Perry and Peter Gilmore provided the world’s finest chefs and food and wine media a snippet of what to expect in 2017.
Wine Australia General Manager of marketing, Stuart Barclay says that collaborating with Tourism Australia will bring about an international awareness and appreciation for Australia’s sophisticated food and wine culture.
