Wineries aren’t just for spring and summer. It’s time to shrug on your cosiest knit and warm up with some Adelaide Hills reds this winter. We love the hills, and we love wine equally as much, which is why you’ll find us at this year’s Winter Reds Weekend, held from the 28th to the 30th of July. The weekend will feature 28 Adelaide Hills wineries and venues hosting events focused completely on red wine. Participating wineries include Bird in Hand, Barrister’s Block, Riposte Wines, Pike & Joyce, Sidewood Estate and Shaw & Smith, among many others.

Winter Reds will also showcase the culinary expertise of acclaimed local chefs, who will create a selection of delectable dishes to compliment the rich, local wines on offer. The weekend’s theme is ‘Play with Fire’; the chefs will focus on roasting, barbecuing, and braising quality produce to warm our bellies. That means sizzling spit roasts, juicy burgers, and a healthy dose of paella. Indulge on Friday night at The Lane, where you can explore the evocative qualities of truffles in a luxurious five-course degustation. Or, head to the hills on Saturday night and enjoy five decadent courses and eight rich, sultry wines at Howard Vineyard’s Fire & Feast treat.

Across the region, cellar doors will be showcasing their first-class, cool-climate reds. It’s no secret that Adelaide has always been an exceptional food and wine destination, and combining that with the scenery of the Adelaide Hills creates a truly spectacular weekend. Many wineries are offering live music, master classes and mouth-watering new menus. We encourage you to have a good look through the full program to really get a taste of what’s on offer; there is no shortage of indulgent events to attend!

Adelaide Hills Wine Region Executive Officer, Nicole Roberts, gives a strong case for cozying up in the hills over the weekend.

“Our event invites food and wine lovers to pull on their wellies, layer-up their woolies, and escape to the magical winter wonderland that is the Adelaide Hills in July,”

“And let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than settling in front of a fire and enjoying a meal and glass of red with friends,” Says Nicole.

Snuggling up in front of a crackling fire on a cool Hills afternoon sounds pretty great to us. So unearth your gumboots and meet us in the Hills this July for the Winter Reds Weekend.
