Yachts, Seafood and Mansions at Holdfast Bay

The City of Holdfast Bay has got to be one of the most sought after places to live in Adelaide and Australia. Located just 20 minutes from Adelaide’s CBD and encompassed by some of Australia’s most breathtaking, sandy beaches, this prime location is a vibrant destination full of some truly incredible perks.

Embarking on a tour of Holdfast Bay last week, we got the chance to hear all about the area’s rich heritage, tourism attractions and living options whilst sailing serenely along the coastline. Our scenic boat tour took us from the top to bottom of Holdfast Bay as we admired the stunning seaside mansions that we one day hope to afford (yes, we’re dreaming big!).

After landing ashore for lunch, we were enlightened by a smoking ceremony carried out by the Karuna people – the traditional owners of the Holdfast Bay area.

We were treated to a delicious lunch catered by Celebrity Chef Bree May, serving us a super seafood feast alongside a long table, fine-dining set-up and relaxing ocean views.

To begin our long lunch, we enjoyed a summery seafood jambalaya, which came served cold combining smoked Coffin Bay oysters, fish ceviche, cherry tomatoes and a wild rice cracker in a tomato-based, soup-like sauce infused with chorizo. There really was so much happening in this dish; all the flavours came together to create the most delectable complexity.

Our main was an intense South Australian Crab Boil consisting of blue swimmer crab, mussels, clams, corn, potato, bush tomato and some of the biggest prawns we’ve ever sighted.

Tucking into this dish was an experience to say the least; the strong smell of fishy seafood hits you at first, but your nose becomes used to it as you pick your way through the pieces of deliciously fresh and juicy local seafood. On the side, we were treated to some yummy, dense cornbread with a herb butter.

To finish our meal on a high note, Chef Bree brought out dessert in the form of a portable gelati station, serving up refreshing gelati in crunchy waffle bases.
