Zenning out at Dermazen

Dermazen: A Place for Zen
Dermazen: A Place for Zen

Detoxifying and enlightening, Adelaide’s new skin health clinic Dermazen had us in the zone of total relaxation last Wednesday afternoon.

We were invited by the lovely couple owners, Shaun and Blue, to trial their ZO Ultra Hydrating Simulator Peel Treatment (mouthful, we know) on a day that was nothing short of absolutely horrendous weather-wise. Despite ruining our hair in the rain and somehow finding ourselves lost on the way up to the exclusive little clinic located in the Adelaide Hills, our treatment made us feel like a million bucks and ready to take on the rest of the thunderous evening.

With only ever one person in the clinic at a time (unless coming in with friends or family), Dermazen is a truly private setting where patients can feel comfortable and void of judgement. It currently operates as a home clinic, with the owners planning to move operations into Adelaide city once the client-base grows.

We entered the clinic in a fluster last week, but were instantly soothed by the soft classical playing in the background and the warm yellow glow of the singular room. To the right, a bouquet of striking yellow flowers stood decorating a lounging space while, to the left, a clinic bed sat surrounded by interesting skin gadgets and products. However, the prestigious DermaZen emblem was the first thing to catch our eye, proudly overlooking the clinic.

Shaun welcomed us in with open arms and began informing us about the facial treatment we were to receive. We learnt that the Zo Ultra Hydration Treament is an elegant process, beginning with a gentle cleansing and micro-exfoliation to remove surfaces debris.

The treatment uses mulberry, licorice and bearberry extracts, with kojic and actic acids to prep for a triple action process, aiming to enhance a healthy glow and clarity. Skin texture is also improved, smoothing over fine lines and wrinkles.

The aroma of each product was refreshing on the nose; we just loved the ZO Aloe Hydra gel, exuding wafting smells of cucumber and chamomile. This product cooled our skin down and was accompanied by a calming pressure point massage by our accommodating Shaun.

Although the salicylic acid procedure could be intense at times, triggering a slight burn and coughing, it was a necessary step to fully cleansing the dirt and grime from deep down in our pores!

Shaun kept us entertained with hilarious remarks and informative commentary, showing us some of Dermazen’s admittedly scary-looking (and expensive-looking) gadgets in between primping and pampering our faces. He was truly a beam of light brightening up the entire clinic and he made the whole experience that more pleasant.

We would definitely recommend visiting Dermazen’s official website to organise an appointment at the clinic, or alternatively you can check them out on Facebook and Instagram.
