By now almost everyone in Adelaide has heard of 50sixone, the fantastic new brunch/dessert bar making waves on social media. They opened their doors to the public on Sunday the 17th of July, but The Adelaidian was one of a lucky group that was invited in on Saturday to preview what 50sixone has to offer.
A gorgeous little candy display
The Mayor of Unley Lachlan Clyne had the great honour of cutting open the marshmallow ribbon to officially mark the opening of this decadent establishment, and from then onwards the champagne and canapés were plenty.
Breakfast Sliders
We sampled a wide variety of the dishes available, from savoury bites like crispy corn fritters with bacon relish and avocado and (our favourite) the breakfast sliders, which are served in a trio of egg and bacon, smoked salmon and poached egg, to sweet delicacies like the red velvet pancakes and between two cookies, 50sixone’s take on the classic ice cream sandwich.

No trip to 50sixone would have been complete without indulging in one of their incredible Insta-Famous Shakes! Unbelievably elaborate, these milkshake creations are sure to rack up the likes on your Instagram feed but require great skill and discipline to devour. A challenge not for the faint-hearted, we recommend tackling one of these without the company of any other food. Our favourite by far was the Pretzels for President, a salted caramel thick shake topped with zeppole, chocolate-dipped pretzels, popcorn and fresh cream. Insanely satisfying!
