The Bartley Hotel brings sophisticated cocktails and food to West Lakes

Down at West Lakes The Bartley Hotel has had a makeover, with a sleek new interior, creative cocktail list and moreish food menu to boot.

Though it’s a rather large venue with multiple areas for the restaurant, bar, gaming and outdoor seating, there are lots of comfy couches and groups of tables that  you’ll be able to find yourself a nook to settle in easily.

The first cocktail to catch our attention was the Chalet Winter Warmer. Made with whisky, lemon juice, honey syrup, gingerbread syrup and served warm, this one shook the cold right out of us and made us feel like Christmas is coming.

The Sweet Desire came next, which was a zesty combination of sweet, sour and floral with elderflower liqueur, vodka, lemon juice, vanilla sugar syrup and egg white.

The classic flavour combination of apple and spice is always a winner, and The Bartley Hotel have created a cocktail that plays by those exact rules. The Kraken Apple Pie is made with spiced rum, apple juice, gingerbread syrup, lemon juice and egg white, and tastes like a dessert your grandmother would make.

The food menu at The Bartley is extensive, covering all your regular pub staples like schnitties, steaks and burgers, while adding in a few modern additions like Broad Bean Fritters, Vegetable Tangine and Pork Belly Salad.

While we tried a LOT of food during our visit, two dishes stood out to us. The Hot Wings were TO DIE FOR, being tender on the inside and salty and crispy on the outside. Served with a creamy blue cheese sauce, we could demolish more than a few servings of these.

The other dish that grabbed our attention was the crumbed mushrooms with haloumi. A teaser of the Portobello Mushroom and Haloumi Burger, the crumbing on the mushrooms was extra-crunchy and contrasted perfectly with the softness of the mushroom and the chewiness of the haloumi. The flavours  of mushroom and haloumi go together like PB&J, and anyone who’s part of the current haloumi obsession knows this dish isn’t just for the vegos.

Dessert isn’t to be skimped on here either, with four decadent options on the menu. The Bartley Chocolate Bar combines layers of chocolate brownie with chocolate sherry mousse and honeycomb cream, while the Rustic Panna Cotta is served with poached fruit, roasted pistachio and cinnamon whisky. A Hot Apple Pie is a comforting finish to any meal, and fresh Jam Donuts come at a measly $2.50 each, the perfect final bite for those who want just a little sweetness to end their meal.

The Barley Hotel also host regular events like kids cooking classes and dinners with previous My Kitchen Rules contestants Tim & Kyle. To stay up to date, head over to their Facebook page.
