Making the move back to Australia in peak summer, from peak UK winter, it’s safe to say we were pretty pasty. Fortunately, Sunescape has sent us a few products from their sunless tanning range to help add some warmth and glow back into our skin.
This award-winning female start-up has created an incredible range of products that are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, while also being made without nasties like alcohol, parabens and sulphates. Being big fans of the ‘fake it, not bake it’ motto, we’re also all too familiar with the signature tanning product smell, and the dry skin you’re often left with. Thanks to the premium formula, Sunescape leaves your skin feeling moistured and gently scented like coconut, meaning there’s really no downside to ditching the UV.
The range spans a variety of products, from skincare to candles, home tans to salon tans. We’ve picked some of our favourite products from the range to share with you, and help you get that iconic Aussie beach babe glow with ease.
Sunescape Instant Self Tan Mousse
It goes without saying that our #1 product from Sunescape would be the Instant Self Tan Mousse. While we’ve tried dozens of tanning mousses in our time, the reason we love Sunescape’s offering is that it dries in 10 minutes, doesn’t feel sticky and doesn’t leave you with that chemically-fake tan smell you usually get. That makes it perfect for busy people like us, because you can throw on a comfy dress after and run some errands or tackle your to-do list while it develops for 4-5 hours. After that, you can shower it off and you’re left with a healthy, natural-looking tan.
As with any home tanning product, we would recommend showering before use and giving your body a good scrub to remove any dead skin. This helps to avoid any patchiness and give you a really even finish. Sunescape Exfoliating Body Polish is a great pairing for any tan, using pineapple enzymes and lychee seed beads to gently buff your skin and leave it super soft. We’d also ALWAYS recommend applying any tan at all (even a gradual tanning moisturiser or spray applicator tan) with a mitt, like the Sunescape Luxe Self Tan Applicator Mitt. Not only does it prevent awkward streaks and patches, but it also protects your hands, ensuring you don’t end up with bright orange palms when you’re done.
Sunescape Illuminating Body Tint
Perfect for when you want a quick glow last-minute and don’t have time to tan, or as a top-up for any tan you might still have on, Sunescape Illuminating Body Tint is the perfect secret weapon for your beauty collection. Rather than be super sparkly or glittery, this body tint just offers a hint of warm colour and a soft glow, giving you an airbrushed finish on your arms, legs and decolletage. We’d recommend waiting about 10 minutes after applying it just to give it a little time to try, but then you’re good to go, with no sticky feeling and a flawless look.
Sunescape Hydrating Body Butter
The first thing we noticed about the Sunescape Hydrating Body Butter is HOW GOOD IT SMELLS. Wow. As soon as you lift the lid, the delicious scents of coconut, cocoa and shea butter greet your nose, and linger on your skin after applying. The rich formula uses the two aforementioned butters, as well as a range of other nourishing oils, antioxidants, vitamins and fruit extracts to soothe and moisturise skin. The key to having a flawless fake tan is to prevent your skin from drying out, which is why it’s so important to use a moisturising tan formula, as well as keep hydrating your skin daily with products like the body butter. In doing this, you’ll also help extend the life of your tan and help it fade evenly.
If you’re keen to treat your skin to some Sunescape, you can find their products at beauty stockists around Australia, and on their website here. Developed in Bondi and made in Australia, Sunescape makes a fab addition to any Aussie gal’s tanning collection.
