Winter is coming to an end and, boy, did we see that coming through this sunny weekend just passed! Inevitably, this means we can expect to see some new trends on the scene, with David Jones swiftly launching their 2017 Spring/Summer collection ahead of the warm weekend.
Held on Friday evening, the runway event was hosted by the charismatic Chris Kontos and fellow fashion guru Belinda Sloane, both of who talked us through each piece and the wearability of designs on show. The night opened with a meet and greet session with model and TV personality Jesinta Campbell; we were lucky enough to squeeze in a little chat and photo with her just before she set off on her flight back home to Sydney. Confirmed: she’s just as gorgeous in real life as she is in all the pictures!
Admittedly, we got pretty excited about the outfits gliding down the runway. One of the dominating themes of the night was versatility: outfits designed to take you from a casual stroll on the beach straight to a cocktail night with the crew (summer goals right?). On that note, we’re stepping out of the basic, neutral coloured get ups that we’ve been living in the past few months and into something a little more bold to ensure 2017 goes out with a bang!

David Jones showcased pieces designed by a number of house favourites, many boasting structure and effortless flair, with others proving that bright colours are, in fact, totally wearable and versatile. Although there was diversity in the range, there were also some conspicuous trends throughout the night. Ruffles and flares were certainly a key feature, tailored to add volume in all the right places and achieving ultimate flattery.
We also saw plenty of pastels and sheer fabrics for more a soft, feminine alternative to represent the modern romantic era; this particular ‘new romantics’ trend gave off major Emma Watson vibes. We fell in love with ‘The Tea Party Mini Dress’ by Thurley, featuring a fun and flirty polka dot print which was quite the reoccurring print in the range; Chris labelled it a staple this spring.

The bright red trans-seasonal ensembles were definitely show stopping, bringing colour-blocking to the forefront. The chic Carla Zampatti ‘Selene Caped Jumpsuit’ was quick to steal our hearts, complemented perfectly with a pair of simple red suede stilettos. Surprisingly, the use of red-on-red wasn’t overbearing, rather, just the right amount colour to make a statement. Aboard the colour trend were pieces by Camilla, each of which were loose fitted, covered in vibrant patterns and aesthetic prints in true Camilla style.

And of course, what would the catwalk be without a little midnight glam? The runway also showcased some stunning pieces for the night, including the likes of a metallic wrap dress and a couple of classic Chanel-inspired ‘little black dresses’ for the darker souls out there (we’ll take them all, thanks).
