Deco Dolls heat up the Adelaide Fringe

The Adelaide Fringe isn’t complete without a little glitz and glam, and Deco Dolls definitely bring lots of it to their latest set featuring some of the most talented and experienced burlesque performers in Australia. Taking place at Nexus Arts Centre, guests are taken back in time to the roaring 20s and 30s where flapper girls, red lipstick, hair rollers and feather boas were all the hype.

If you have never attended a burlesque performance before, I suggest you do. Not only will it make you feel like you have just stepped onto the set of Chicago or The Great Gatsby, but it’s a celebration of the beautiful female form in a way that is sophisticated, yet sexy. Mixing it up with a killer soundtrack that had my feet tapping from the get go, Deco Dolls dazzled the crowd with their stunning costumes that glistened against the spotlight and bare black backdrop.

Each character possessed a unique story to tell and fictionalised persona that shined through their display of fancy footwork and tantalising body movements. One of the highlights of the evening from Sunday’s show was Camilla Cream, who got the crowd going to All That Jazz from the Chicago soundtrack. As she stepped onto the stage in her revealing bright red glitter dress and stark blonde bob, her strong vocals filled the room, as did her dynamic stage presence. She then braced us once more in a final act, with large white feather fans and embellished shimmering lingerie, reminiscent of the Burlesque diva we all know so well – Dita Von Teese (but with blonde hair). Leopard Lass, Cyd Starling, Viola Verve, Lilly Evelyn, Porcelain LaBon and male performer Sonny James, seized our attention until the very end with their personalised dances that had touches of humour and sass stirred throughout.

Their next show is coming up pretty soon on March 3, but will feature a mix of previous and new performers, including Bettie Bombshell, Porcelain Alice, Lyra La Belle, Viola Verve, Sonny James, Clementine Twist and The Deco Duo. Alternatively, their last and final show on Sunday March 5 will welcome Nocturne Rose to the stage.

With only two productions left, and after a sell out 2016 Fringe season, it’s worth getting your tickets early to avoid disappointment. Head to The Adelaide Fringe website to secure your seats now!

P.S. It’s best to leave your jacket at home. It may get a little hot.
