On a sunny winter’s day, we found ourselves strolling Sydney’s inner west en route to destination Glebe. A trendy little pocket of Sydney with a laidback feel, Glebe is one of those suburbs that’s welcoming to both residents and visitors alike. Between the Glebe Markets and Broadway Sydney, there’s plenty of shopping to do, and the eclectic cafes will have you bouncing between brunches on the weekends.
We hopped over to Oh My Days Vegan Cafe for a plant-based brunch, hoping to fill our bellies with some nutritious goods. Serving an all-day breakfast/lunch menu with a distinct Mexican flair, there’s quite the colourful selection to choose from.
We started with a couple of tacos each, trying all three of the options. The ‘meet’ball taco was our first choice, combining Napoletana sauce, cashew cream and parmesan. It was a rich choice with excellent texture and cheeky fake meatballs that could have fooled us.
The mushroom carnitas taco with guacamole was also delish, but it was the chicken taco that had us most fooled! Its chicken substitute truly tasted like the real thing and had that same pull-apart texture.
For mains, we opted for the Breakfast Bowl and a Burrito Bowl. These two together literally looked like we were about to the rainbow. The Breakfast Bowl was full of veggie faves, including sweet potato, grilled corn, roast peppers and butternut squash creme. A dish of variety, it was finished off nicely with black beans, guacamole, scrambled tofu and jalapeno salsa.
The burrito was our top pick of the day, and out of the three options, we chose the Jackfruit Burrito as recommended by our waitress. We asked for it as a bowl rather than a burrito wrap, which is an option for all burritos on the menu. Complete with roast mushrooms, sweet potato, corn, pickled cabbage, pebre and salsa verde, it had all the complementary flavours hitting all the right spots.
It was also super hearty and filling, leaving us feeling full to the brim but not at all groggy. Also, after trying the substitute cheese in the burrito, we think we may be converted to vegan cheese…
As Oh My Days is not only a cafe, but a bakery too, we couldn’t leave without sampling some bakery goods. To finish, we ordered ourselves a dessert each: a carrot cake and lamington. Both picks were fresh, dense, and perfectly moist – the perfect way to round off a delicious vegan feast.
