The start of the autumn/winter season is just as stressful as it is exciting. Sure, there’s the release of new winter coats, cashmere scarves and shiny leather boots, but how do you know which pieces are worth the investment and which are purchases you’ll wear once before throwing to the back of your closet, never to see a grey winter’s day again? Thankfully the Myer Centre Adelaide have free, intimate styling sessions run by Filip Odzak at the beginning of each season to help navigate stressed shoppers through the new season trends and to buy clothes that suit their body. We took away some highlights from the session to help you decide what to invest in this winter.

Key tones for this season are camels, caramels and bronze. One of the easiest ways to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is with an oversized camel coat. This is something that will be a staple in your winter wardrobe for many winter seasons to come, so is well worth the investment. If you’re worried about an oversized coat hiding your beautiful shape and curves, simply use a belt to cinch the coat in at the waist and add definition and figure.

Another huge trend for women this season is leather layering. Try a leather shirt layered with some leather gloves (a great accessory for this season), or a leather jacket over leather overalls.

Dressing for your figure will never go out of style, and Filip had some great tips for women of different body shapes. For girls with a small bust, wear a high neck or top with shoulder detailing for an elegant and sophisticated look. If you have a slender figure, try a frock-style coat with a structured waist sewn in to add shape to your outfit. For a wider hip, go for slimming pencil skirts and vertical striped to elongate your figure. Ladies with curvy bodies, go for wrap-style dresses and tops to highlight your curves and tighten the waistline, and steer away jackets that end at the top or middle of your butt.

For men, the navy suit is a must. It’s dark enough to be versatile for any situation, but as it’s not black it steers away from being too typical and boring. A slim fit suit has been the go-to style for the last few years, and nothing is changing here. Wear it with a range of patterned or solid coloured shirts, and throw on a scarf to sneakily hide any stray beer bellies. To style the navy suit, add a floral tie or pocket square and take the look to the next level.
