Kings Cross Distillery: Celebrating the golden era of Kings Cross

King's Cross Distillery Negroni Bianco

Let’s throwback to the late 1930s — the sophisticated golden era of Kings Cross. Once Sydney’s liveliest nook, Kings Cross was dotted with glamorous restaurants, buzzing nightclubs, quaint cafes and busy theatres. Here, you would find no shortage of energetic party-goers spending their nights drinking and debauching. It was, without a doubt, Sydney’s highlife at its finest. To commemorate this golden era in time, there’s a certain new gin label out there that is seeking to bring back the good old days…

Introducing: Kings Cross Distillery. Located in the heart of Kings Cross today, this gin distillery and small bar is bringing back some old school charm to this historic suburb. Stepping inside, you feel teleported back in time. It is very much a speakeasy fit out, with narrow hallways and levels of plush booth seating and marble tables.

One wall inside the venue is particularly special. A NSFW wall plastered with vintage pinup photography and newspaper excerpts pays homage to the venues past life as an adult book store. And what about before that? Well, the venue was an actual 1960s speakeasy bar and illegal gambling den. There’s no denying the space has seen a colourful history throughout the years. Kings Cross Distillery aims to carry on that legacy.

At the heart of the venue is where you’ll find gin being distilled, real-time, in a shiny brass pot-still affectionally named ‘Miss Pottsy’. The bar naturally serves its own premium gin, and another exciting feature which makes Kings Cross Distillery so unique is its ‘gin lockers’. Customers have the opportunity to buy their own gin locker, which is where they can keep their own bottles to drink anytime they visit the venue. They can use the gin to enjoy any mix of their choice, whether it’s a G&T or gin cocktail from the list.
