The people over at Naked Malt believe in doing things a little differently. They live naked and don’t believe in following the conventional whisky rules, which has resulted in a beautifully unique drink.
To help everyone live a little more naked, they’re running a competition that will get Aussies off the grid and experience the ultimate staycation. All you have to do to win one of these incredible trips is to purchase a bottle of Naked Malt, enter the code on the bottle online and take a short, five-question quiz.
We were lucky enough to get our hands on a bottle of Naked Malt and can confirm the whisky is delicious. A unique blend of single malt whisky is matured for six months in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, giving the liquid a rich and fruity flavour. They call these casks ‘naked’ as they’ve never been used before.
We had a fun night in enjoying Naked Malt with some banging lamb sausages and had some time to play around with the whisky in different types of drinks. While it’s very easy drinking on its own, our favourite way to enjoy it was in an Old Fashioned. We’ve included a recipe below if you’d like to make one yourself.
The Naked Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned is a classic whisky cocktail thought to have been invented around 1880 by bartender and bourbon aristocrat James E. Pepper. Originally crafted in Louisville, he brought the recipe to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York City where it grew in popularity.
- 60mL Naked Malt
- 1 sugar cube
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
Place the sugar cube and the bitters in a mixing glass.
Dissolve the sugar cube into the bitters using a muddler. You can add a little water to make it dissolve easier.
Fill the mixing glass with ice, pour over the Naked Malt and stir to chill and dilute.
Pour the Old Fashioned over a large ice cube in a rocks glass.
Garnish with a flamed orange peel. Enjoy!
