Should you be using a pre-wash scrub for your hair?

Pure Haircare Walnut Scrub

A new haircare product has recently been catching our eye on social media – pre-wash treatment for your hair. Designed to be used before you shampoo, it’s a type of scrub that is supposed to prepare your hair for shampoo, conditioner and masks, as well as offer a couple of other hair benefits. We recently were sent the Pure Walnut Scrub to try out, so we gave it a little whirl and are here to report back.

You’re probably wondering why it’s necessary to use a pre-wash treatment. From our understanding, it’s the same reason why we’re encouraged to shampoo twice – the first wash gets rid of all the oil, dirt and product build-up on your scalp, while the second wash actually cleans your hair. If you’re a double shampooer you’ve probably noticed that the second time you shampoo your hair the product tends to foam up waaaay more, which is exactly what happens when you use the Pure Walnut Scrub.

As well as removing product buildup, the scrub has also been designed to stimulate your hair follicles to help encourage hair growth, remove dead skin cells and act as a detox for your scalp. Regular use is said to reduce dandruff, prevent greasy hair and overall help your hair to be healthier and more luscious.

Pure Haircare Walnut Scrub

Like all other Pure products, the pre-shampoo treatment is 100% vegan, using walnut and apricot seed powder to gently exfoliate, as well as a selection of essential oils like nettle, ginger, rosemary and lavender to nourish.

We’ve tried the scrub a few times now. As we used to be avid double shampooers, we’ve now replaced the first shampoo with the scrub instead. Like we mentioned before, it helps our shampoo to foam much better after and leaves our hair feeling much cleaner than with just a single shampoo.

If you’re keen to try out the walnut scrub or any of Pure’s other products, you can shop them online here.
