Sing and shake at Shangri-La, Adelaide’s new Karaoke bar

It’s time to dust off your rusty vocal pipes because Adelaide’s newest karaoke bar Shangri-La has arrived. Located in the heart of party-centric Hindley Street, Shangri-La is the perfect night out for those who want to make their ultimate singing debut. The venue assembles everything we love about a classic karaoke bar with some beautiful décor and a bit of a modern twist!

Shangri-La is an experience that combines classy cocktail living with karaoke madness. Upon entering the main lounge, we are greeted with an abundance of Chinese lanterns that fill the ceiling. The bar radiates the room with colour thanks to its sleek neon design complemented with a beautiful feature wall, painted by Adelaide artist Elaine Cheng.

It’s safe to say that Shangri-La is a total all-rounder when it comes to song choice. There are plenty of options for those who just want a night out singing the karaoke classics we’re all familiar with; however, there will be tunes to belt out for everyone since we can also choose to sing modern hits that have just dropped in the charts. If your voice is just too angelic for the public, head into a private booth with your crew where you can sit down with your drinks and be as loud as you want.

Karaoke aside, this bar will blow you away with its cocktails. Whether you fancy something sweet to sip on or something stronger, Shangri-La has your back. Not only are the drinks delicious, they also totally hold a degree of artistry. Take the North-west Yunnan (pic below), for example. This oolong tea-based cocktail is infused with bourbon, a dash of lemon and a dash of honey to give a tasty flavour sharpness. This one comes in a teapot filled with dry ice that steams as the mixture is poured into it, so I guess you could say that the cocktail literally breathes!

Shangri-La definitely lives up to its name. It’s named after a mythical paradise said to be in in the Himalayan Mountains, somewhere near the Chinese province of Yunnan. The only difference here is that for Adelaide, we know it exists now! The bar is open all week but it is sure to thrive on the weekends, so head in with a group of your favourites, grab a cocktail, a microphone, and then prepare for a real night out.
