High-end designer dress hire, Something Borrowed, has just opened its doors to an Adelaide boutique on Unley Rd, celebrated with a glamorous evening of fashion, wine and all things fine.
Fashion entrepreneur Mia Briotti, opened the boutique with the intent of sharing expensive designer pieces for a fraction of the price, giving customers the chance to show off their great taste in trend and style without spending a fortune.
Mia started off by simply renting dresses from her own wardrobe and, just two years later, Something Borrowed is now sending out more than 200 dresses a week, catering for sizes 6-16 and offering something to suit every occasion including weddings, engagement parties, galas, school formals, work functions, birthday parties or even just a night out with friends.
After experiencing huge success in both WA and Victoria, Mia began receiving inquiries of interest coming from many ladies interstate, including Adelaide. “We chose Adelaide as we saw a gap in the high end rental market, we want to give women the ability to hire pieces that they can not find in Adelaide,” she explains.
“The business has grown enormously in Perth and Melbourne and we’re so excited to bring Something Borrowed to Adelaide and feel it will do really well here.”
In Adelaide, we’re certainly seeing a lean towards hire boutiques instead of buying designer dresses full price and there is no doubt Something Borrowed is going to soar successfully in its field, offering brands such as A’elkemi, Manning Cartell, Yeojin Bae, Lover, Carla Zampatti and Nicholas.
At the official launch last week, guests were offered gourmet canapes and a selection of wines hand selected and generously provided by sponsors Distill and Serafino Wines.
The Adelaidian were fortunate enough to be offered an opportunity by Adelaide store manager and friend, Jade Torres, to try on just a few of the luxurious garments and get an exclusive taste of what it is like to be an SB girl. The first garment we tried was an exquisite sparkly black evening gown by A’elkemi, with long sleeves and a deep, plunging v-neckline. Characterised by glittering stripes, a high centre split and a fishtail train, this dress shines like no other.

As we suspected, the dress has been worn effortlessly on the red carpet, draping the shoulders of Australian beauty, Danni Minogue, for the TV Week Logie Awards night. There’s no denying a dress like this is the ultimate choice for 21st birthdays, formal events and red carpet launches.

The Something Beyond Navy ‘Grace Dress’ was our next dressups option, made with a soft yet heavy fabric which screams quality and glamour. Featuring a plunging neckline again (this style is oh-so in right now!), the Grace Dress is also available in Red, White, Blush and Black.
Something Beyond was founded by Something Borrowed owner, Mia Briotti, as she stands as current Head Designer for the label. The Something Beyond collection encompasses all that is class and elegance with a select range of cocktail and formal dress styles in various colours to choose from. We found the styles extremely versatile, with a dress for every occasion stretching from a night out in town to a formal event or debutante ball.
The fabric of the Grace Dress was fun to swish and twirl in, and it flowed gracefully behind whilst showing off a modest side split in motion. The dress was also a tad more comfortable and easy-to-wear than the sequin number, allowing freedom to dance and move around (as well as letting you eat as much as you like without developing signs of a food baby!).
The Unley Road Malvern store is now open by appointment for consultations with qualified stylists. Customers are able to select their desired garment and get it dry cleaned for return after wear. Rental costs range between $90-$250 for items priced at retail from $500-$3,000.
