Iddy Biddy has to be one of the coolest names for an eatery we’ve heard in a while. It’s fun to say out loud and brings to mind visions of a fun, quirky little venue, which we’re happy to report Iddy Biddy follows through on.
Located in St Kilda, Melbourne, this sunlit corner store boasts loads of outdoor seating for enjoying those beach sunsets, as well as cute wooden tables and benches inside that are set amongst planter boxes, framed festival posters and other knick-knacks.
The extensive menu can be found in a pile of classic children’s picture books lying on the bar, and once opened contain a wide variety of foods, from hot wings to salads to seafood.
We were advised that the $1 hot wings were something we had to try, so we ordered five in each of the three flavours: sticky BBQ, peri peri and hot chilli. The sticky BBQ wings were sweet and tender, and we probably could’ve eaten kilos of those. The peri peri were quite spicy but still delicious, while the hot chilli did not fail to disappoint and left us with steam coming out of our ears.
Mel ordered the seafood pasta and was presented with a generous serving of fettuccini pasta loaded with fresh seafood and coated with lemon, chilli and olive oil. Though it was a pasta dish, it wasn’t particularly heavy as the fresh seafood, tomatoes and lemon made it refreshing and a great summer pasta option.
Kristen ordered the seafood Iddy Biddy style, which consisted of a mix of fresh seafood tossed in crushed tomato, fish sauce and white wine, served with crusty bread. The dish reminded us of the style of food that we ate in Barcelona, and if you’re a seafood fan we highly recommend trying this dish next time you’re down in St Kilda. The flavours of garlic, tomato and salty seafood worked so well together and the bread ensured no drop was left on the plate.
Our dining partner Brennan from Burgers of Melbourne opted for the cajun chicken salad, a healthy and refreshing option. Brennan has his own secret burger on the menu at Iddy Biddy that you can only order by showing this picture, but we guess even the burger king himself has to eat a salad sometimes!
Iddy Biddy is open from 8am until 1am, covering breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. You can find the eatery at Shop 35, 37 Blessington Street, St Kilda, Melbourne.
