Celebrate Nebbiolo wines with Mercato!

For many of you, the term ‘Nebbiolo’ is probably an unfamiliar one, especially if you don’t consider yourself to be quite the well-rounded wine geek. Fortunately, you don’t have to be a wine geek to join Club Nebb.

Club Nebb is the first of its kind: a large-scale event hosted by Italian food and wine emporium Mercato alongside wine connoisseur David Ridge on September the 10th that celebrates the fascinating Italian red grape Nebbiolo and the wines from which it is made.

The event will offer familiar Nebbiolo names such as Bera, Bruno Rocca, Ca’ Rome, Castello di Neive, Luciano Sandrone, Massolino, Prunotto, Roberto Voerzio, Trediberri, Vietti and many more!  Club Nebb will also be showcasing some of Australia’s finest examples of Nebbiolo with producers such as Architects of Wine, Casa Freschi, First Drop, Henschke, Lino Ramble, Longview, Next Crop Wines, Ngeringa, Pizzini, Ross Ritchie… the list goes on.

The day will be educational for those who want to learn, with a number of informative masterclasses open to anyone who’s interested in finding out more about the Nebb varietal. The classes are:

  • LONGVIEW VERTICAL ($35pp, 12pm – 1:15pm): Hosted by Peter Saturno of Longview Vineyards and Dino Cotsaris, Longview Viticulturist.
  • THE MANY FACES OF NEBBIOLO ($35pp, 1:30pm-3pm): Hosted by David Ridge and Tony Love.
  • THE LEGENDS OF NEBBIOLO (Sold Out): Hosted by David Ridge and Peter Godden of Arrivo.

And for those not looking for an educational experience? Well, who can say no to a wine down in the company of great people and a vibrant atmosphere?

At least 20 Australian Nebb producers are set to join the celebrations too, adding to the extensive variety of over 80 different Italian and Australian Nebbiolo wines up for tasting on the day.

La Cantina is Adelaide’s very own specialist Italian wine store located within Mercato, housing a strong cross-section of Nebbiolo wines from northern Italy (many of which you will get to sample at Club Nebb). La Cantina’s manager Chris Sarandis says: “It’s clear this grape variety is quickly becoming an obsession.”

“We want to provide Adelaide’s – maybe Australia’s – first comprehensive tasting of where our own wine makers are at with Nebbiolo, and to compare these examples from elsewhere.”
