Savoury eclairs, vous dites? Sign us up monsieur; we’ll take one of each. The incredible Maitre Choux, a patisserie known for producing eclairs that look like artwork and taste just as beautiful, has just launched a range of savoury eclairs, and we couldn’t wait to get our petite mains on them.
There are four creations in the savoury range, including two vegetarian which they had unfortunately run out of one style on our visit. We tried the available three though, and each fell in love with a different flavour. Kristen was a smoked salmon, yuzu cream cheese and avocado girl, loving the classic combination fresh and salty flavour combination here and the pretty swirls of salmon delicately perched on top. Mel’s pick was the chicken, mayo and avocado, filled with soft avocado puree and topped with marinated chicken and delicious flakes of sharp parmesan. The double tomato and feta is still well-worth a mention though, with two types of tiny tomatoes on top separated by crumbly feta cheese and filled with sundried tomato and feta cream.
After nibbling away on the savoury eclairs, it would be a crime not to indulge in one of their sugar sweet treats to finish. If you’re having a hard time choosing one (we don’t blame you, when they all look and taste this good how can you pick just one?), we have some recommendations for you. The Red Love Raspberry Macaron Éclair is Kristen’s favourite, while the Very Dark Multi Origin Chocolate Éclair is Mel’s. Pair it with one of their refreshing fruity iced teas and you’ve got yourself an afternoon tea fit for royalty.
Founded by three-Michelin-star experienced chef Joakim Prat, Maitre Choux is a must-visit destination for local foodies and tourists alike. Located in Soho, South Kensington, King’s Road, Bicester Village and Fortnum & Mason, each spot is decorated in beautiful pastels and florals, complementing the beautiful eclairs on display to give you a real treat for the senses.
