Three Birds One Cock

The adventures of the Adelaide Fringe continue with Three Birds One Cock. Don’t let the title mislead you, however, because it’s not what you’re thinking. I know because I was thinking the same thing. And while I didn’t experience the sensual theater fantasy that was playing in my head, I’m proud to say that I still enjoyed myself!

Three Birds One Cock is an Avant-garde type of performance, where three blonde victims of Alfred Hitchcock‘s films (Vertigo, Psycho, and The Birds) are trapped together in a room with a dead body. How did they get there? Who killed the woman in the potato sack? What in the world is happening?

All questions you’re sure to ask yourself as you watch the events unfold. The girls did brilliantly to weave light elements such as noir, dark comedy, surrealism, and macabre. There is an obvious Hitchcock sort of feel, but also felt a little reminiscent of works such as Twin Peaks (a great 90’s television show, for those who haven’t watched it). I don’t want to spoil anything, but I highly recommend the performance. It’s short, a little under an hour, and will leave you impressed with the three girls and their abilities. The light elements of noir and suspense were so cozy that I wanted to watch the performance curled up by the fire, while rain poured down outside.

The play was written, directed and performed by the three Victorian College girls: Candace Miles, Madelaine Nunn and Anna Rodway. They first worked together in an intensive trio in their second year of actor training. “We wanted to look at the female story usually told through a male lens, the sense of voyeurism in films and society’s morbid fascination with violence on screen.”

Three Birds One Cock is playing at Star Theatre Two every night from the 18th to the 20th of February. Be sure to head down and support these talented performers while you can!
