Toasties like you’ve never seen before at Toastie Smith

Toastie Smith Chatswood Sydney

As we approached the brand new Toastie Smith in Chatswood, we were met with a massive crowd of fans from the get-go. Toastie Smith really does have itself quite the cult following already. With a long queue stretching through and around the sides of the store, we waited in line for our very first taste of the goods.

The toasties at Toastie Smith are unlike any you’re likely to have ever tried before. But what is it about their toasties that makes them so special? Well, for starters, Toastie Smith specialises in fluffy, loaded scrambled egg sandwiches. They’re quite a specific style of toastie that is unique and cannot be found elsewhere in Sydney.

A popular style of egg toast in Asia, you won’t find your basic ham-and-cheese combo here. Instead, expect to see fillings such as Yakitori, seaweed, grilled prawns and even… osmanthus (don’t worry, we were confused too – it’s a plant native to eastern Asia). With a menu as daring as this one, you can only expect exciting experiences. There’s nothing we love more than trying new foodie delights!

With ten high quality egg sandwiches to choose from, we picked out the Yakitori and the Chicken Barbie for our first taste of Toastie Smith.

The Yakitori struck us as the most interesting, with chicken and veggie skewers, sesame and wafu flavoured slaw, seaweed salad, cheese and Katsuobushi (dried tuna). We were most concerned about the combination of cheese with seaweed, but honestly, it worked a dream. How?! We have no idea. The Japanese style of flavours paired with the egg toast and cheese really made for a totally unusual experience, but it was the unfamiliarity that made this toastie incredible.

While a little less adventurous, the Chicken Barbie was no less impressive. Complete with spiced chicken thigh fillet, cheese, roasted sesame flavoured slaw, pineapple, smashed avocado and shichimi, it still had that Japanese-meets-western influence going on.

And between both choices, the toastie bread itself really had us falling in love. Light and fluffy with a texture so velvety, Toastie Smith really knows how to do egg toast right. How do they even get it that fluffy, seriously!?

Toastie Smith makes for the perfect get-and-go snack or on-the-run brekkie. Take your pick from sides such as fried chicken, french toast and garlic toast, as well as a selection of smoothies and house-made sodas to guzzle down.

You can find the new Toastie Smith location at Concourse Chatswood Interchange, open between 10am-4pm every day.
