Never ever say never to Never Never. Try saying THAT ten times.
Part of the overall debut of the Chalk Hill Collective, Never Never Distilling Co. launched their brand new distillery in McLaren Vale just last week. Having heard loads about this new gin brand prior to the launch, we had our standards set pretty high. That being said, Never Never certainly did not disappoint.
As we ‘stepped into the Never Never’, the airy atmosphere made a striking first impression. It was such a relaxing space, coated in hues of dusty pink and lined wall-to-wall with funky gin bottles. Ceiling-to-floor glass windows allowed for bright rays of sunshine to spill into the main area. The venue was a taste of summer’s paradise, just like the spirit itself.
We enjoyed a refreshing Samsara Spritz to start, combining Never Never Triple Juniper Gin, apple pulp and mint stalk compote, CO2 and dry vermouth. This hot weather winner was best enjoyed seated outside under the verandah. Overlooking stretching views of the beautifully green McLaren Vale region, it’s the perfect spot to kick back and unwind. In fact, the name ‘Never Never’ is actually inspired by “the vast Australian expanse beyond the horizon”, as eloquently put on Never Never’s website. Gin and views do deem a rightful pairing.
And did you know Never Never won ‘World’s Best Classic Gin’ for their Southern Strength Gin at the World Gin Awards? Having only launched in August of 2017, that’s a MASSIVE achievement for the brand. Sure SA is famed for its wine, but it’s seriously awesome to see South Australian gin being put on the world map, too. Big ups to Never Never for doing it in such a short time frame.
